Dr Katherine Trebeck is co-founder of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance and a political economist, writer and advocate for economic system change, based in Scotland. She is also the instigator of the group of Wellbeing Economy Governments (WEGo) – comprising Scotland, New Zealand, Finland, Wales, Iceland, and Canada - early innovators in looking beyond GDP to measuring societal progress.
She recently visited New Zealand and discussed why a wellbeing approach to measuring progress for the economy is gaining momentum and what it looks like in practice. "In a Wellbeing Economy (the “new way”), solutions are people-centred, geared towards environmental protection and regeneration, and long-term. The exciting thing is – the new way is already emerging, with inspiring examples around the world showing us the way."
She shared inspiring examples from a range of cities and how various sectors can contribute to building a wellbeing economy, and the benefits this could bring. Watch the recording here.
