What is wellbeing?

At QWB Lab we see wellbeing as much more than wellness or subjective wellbeing only. Wellbeing is the foundation for a sustainable and flourishing society and has many dimensions. As our co-founder and economist Robert says, it is a ‘wealth’ - a store of value to society that enhances its resilience and is a return on investment beyond traditional indicators. We measure this wealth using a framework with 12 dimensions of wellbeing derived from the OECD.

Katherine Trebeck, political economist and writer, gives a good explanation of the concept of wellbeing in this video. She co-founded the Wellbeing Economy Alliance (WEAll) and instigated the group of Wellbeing Economy Governments (WEGo, comprising Scotland, New Zealand, Finland, Wales, Iceland, and Canada). For her wellbeing is:

Quality of life in all its forms for people and planet now and into the future.

What does wellbeing mean for you? In what ways do you think culture organisations contribute to it? Send us a message, we are interested to know what you think.
