Health: Open up with Vincent

This is part of our series of case studies and examples how a culture organisation contributes to one of the 12 dimensions of wellbeing from QWB Lab's Wellbeing Framework.

The artist Vincent van Gogh was open about his struggles with mental health as can be seen in his letters to his brother Theo. His art was his remedy.

The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam leverages the artist’s life story and his art to encourage people to discuss mental health and share their experiences. With the Open up with Vincent programme the museum offers mindfulness sessions, creative workshops and teaching materials for use at the museum, at home, in schools and online.

With this programme the Museum contributes to the Health dimension of wellbeing, which we describe as 'Contributing to good mental and physical health and lifestyle.' This a value of a museum that will be increasingly important and is worth recognising.
